On The Job Support A Step To Improve Teaching And Learning
Research in modern education
put greater emphasis on educators and school experts to provide on the job support
to teachers in improving day to day practices in schools. The resulting research
shows that teachers who receive continuous professional development can
increase their students’ achievement at greater level (Yoon 2007). My personal
experiences as an educator and mentor report significant effects on teachers in
enhancing classroom learning in different subjects such as mathematics, science,
English etc. Continuous support to
teachers through classroom observations, providing critical feedback and
classroom teaching demonstration are some essential factors increasing the
effectiveness of teaching dynamics in classroom. Such effective programs tend
to have certain features in common, including: a strong emphasis on teachers
learning specific subject content as well as pedagogical content, follow-up reinforcement
of learning, assistance with implementation, and support for teachers from
mentors and colleagues in their schools (Blank & Alas, 2009). Close support
and monitoring teachers while developing lesson plans, organizing teaching and
learning material and providing basic requirements and demands of teachers provoke
teachers’ enthusiasm and improve learning retention in school.
Ongoing support in teaching can
potentially serve a variety of purposes such as re mediating weaknesses in the
skills and knowledge of novice and experienced teachers and keep them up to
date on emerging developments in educational field. Moreover, it provides
opportunity to teachers to work collaboratively within teams and identifying issues
such as regarding students with low intellectual abilities profit more as
teachers explore solutions to overcome them. Blending classroom work with on-the-job training enhance
teacher knowledge and skills, then create improved classroom teaching and
finally raises student achievements.
Considering above facts facilitators
and educators must know some effective and efficient steps such as; close
monitoring, observation of teaching, encouraging through listening teachers
grievances, guiding and providing critical feedback to bring significant and greater
impact on students’ achievements.
